Permissions and nesting birds

We sort out permission for you

In Keswick, decisions about trees are made by the national park authority (Lake District National Park Authority). If a tree has a Tree Preservation Order or stands in a conservation area, we apply on your behalf. It usually takes 6–8 weeks.

Birds nest from March to August. Before every job we inspect the tree, and we never disturb an occupied nest.

  • 6–8 weeks usual time to get permission
  • March–August nesting season

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do I need permission to fell a tree?

For a protected tree or in a conservation area, yes; we’ll find out and apply for you.

Do you clear up afterwards?

Yes, we take away the branches and wood, or leave you the woodchip and logs.

Can you work next to a road?

Yes, we arrange traffic signs.

When is the best time to prune?

It depends on the species; we prune most trees outside the nesting season, and we’ll advise you at the survey.

What if the crown reaches over to my neighbour?

We talk to your neighbour for you before we start.
